Presentations

A series of PowerPoint presentations have been developed which summarize aspects of the Burnt Store Road research findings. The 30 minute to two hour long sessions often expand on material in the book. The nominal entry fees for these sessions are contributed to one of the local nonprofits. April 14, 2016 – DeSoto County Historical Society, Arcadia – This presentation focused on the two Burnt Stores owned by Kennedy & Darling, located 70 miles apart along Charlotte Harbor and the Peace River.  A series of letters written by the stores’ owners and managers between 1845 and 1849 were used to illustrate the state of affairs in DeSoto County before the arrival of the cattle barons.
